Bill Whalen - Trumpet
Originally from Pittsburgh's 32nd Ward Bill has been playing trumpet since the age of 8. There are several major influences in his playing style including The Tijuana Brass, Maynard Ferguson, Winton Marsalis, and Dizzy Gillespie.
Bill has played in several musical groups in Western Pennsylvania including: The Beaver County Wind Symphonic, Monaca Cornet Band, San Rocco Festival Band,The Abbey Brass, The Sewickley Symphony and most recently the 20 piece Hopewell Community Big Band. He has also been a member of several pit orchestra's for various musicals throughout the Beaver Valley.
His favorite trumpet is a 1959 Conn Constellation 36B that has a copper bell and is nickle plated. He plays a 1977 Olds L-13T Custom Clark Terry flugelhorn with a 3C bach flugelhorn mouthpiece. His B-flat horn has a Schilke 14 A heavyweight mouthpiece.
